6 Dales Trail hits Pateley Bridge

The 6 Dales Trail is a new long distance footpath that goes through Pateley Bridge and part of Nidderdale. It was publicly walked for the first time on June 26th and 27th 2010.

The weekend of June 26th/27th 2010 saw the inaugural public walk of the 6 Dales Trail, a new 38 mile long distance footpath. The path goes from Otley in Wharfedale to Middleham in Wensleydale, the mid point being (you guessed it!) Pateley Bridge.

Janet Street-Porter cut the tape in Otley's Manchester Square at 09.30 on the 26th and 30+ walkers set off under the overall leadership of John Sparshatt, the deviser of the new trail. We were blessed with fabulous weather for both days - if anything, slightly TOO warm (though that made the ice cream at Brymor near Jervaulx Abbey even more welcome)!

See the gallery for photos of the motley crew (including yours truly and his better half) following their arrival in Pateley, where they were greeted by the Mayor of Pateley, Chris Henderson (complete with ceremonial chain!).

Our Masham to Pateley walk (Walk 7 on Friday 24th September) utilises part of the 6 Dales Trail route, so don't miss it if you fancy a 'taster'!
